The East Tennessee Nissan Pro-Am got underway today at Millstone Golf Club in Millstone, Tennessee. A total of 134 players are competing on 34 different teams in the tournament, which features a Four Ball team event, a professional division, and an amateur division. The team made up of professional Chris Dibble and amateurs Tom Squires, Scott Smith, and Wes Payne got off to a sizzling start with a 16-under-par 56 that featured 27 birdies among the group to lead the team event by one stroke.
Dibble, the head PGA Professional at Holston Hills Country Club, and local professional David Reed of Millstone Golf Club lead the professional division after matching rounds of 65. An incredible 21 Tennessee section PGA Professionals finished at even par or better.
Ryan Hulton of Cleveland, PJ Smith of Morristown, and Tim Richardson of Cookeville each finished with 5-under-par rounds of 67 to lead all amateurs. Fourteen players are within three strokes of the lead in the division.
Conditions in Millstone were unseasonably cool and breezy on day one. Warmer weather is expected for the final round on Tuesday, when fifteen different teams will tee off within 5 strokes of the overnight lead. It is sure to be an exciting finish.
