The first round of the 40th Annual Tennessee PGA Section Championship teed off today at Old Hickory Country Club in Old Hickory, TN.  The field consisted of 60 PGA Members from Memphis all the way up to the Tri-Cities area.  This event is considered the major championship for these PGA Professionals and much is on the line including a $6,500 check for first place and an exemption into the Stanford St. Jude PGA TOUR event held at TPC Southwind in Memphis, TN.  The event consists of three days of stroke play to crown the Section Champion.

After day one Walt Chapman from Fairways and Greens located in Knoxville, TN took the first day lead with an impressive round of 69 (-2 under par).  Walt is familiar to this position as he won the Section Championship in 1992.  Three players are only one stroke back shooting and five more are only two stokes back including Kelvin Burgin two time defending champion from Bear Trace at Cumberland Mountain.  Look for day two to be an exciting one with many players looking to get a piece of the $35,000 purse.

Special thanks to Joey Hickman and the staff at Old Hickory Country Club for hosting this great event.  For complete results please visit www.golfhousetennessee.com
